Japan provides 15 latest ambulances for FATA

PESHAWAR: Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) under its healthcare programme has provided 15 state-of-the-art ambulances to FATA secretariat with the objective to ensure the provision of latest medical facilities to people of tribal areas.

Sources said that these ambulances were delivered to strengthen healthcare institutions, especially the agency headquarters hospitals and rural health centres in certain areas of FATA.

In this connection, a ceremony was held at governor house on friday wherein Governor Owais Ahmed Ghani formally handed over the keys of vehicles to Additional Chief Secretary FATA Habibullah Khan, sources added

The ambulances are meant for FR Peshawar, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber and Orakzai agencies to improve existing health facilities and referral services for the people of the neglected and remote parts of the region, they said.

Speaking on the occasion, the officials of JICA informed that provision of ambulances was part of a comprehensive health package under the agency's programme, which envisaged $2,660,000, adding that the donation was a gift from the people of Japan for Pakistan.

They further said that both the countries were enjoying friendly ties under which the process of sharing assistance in various civil sectors would continue in the future
