Bunk beds not only look good and provide extra space but are also top on the kid’s wish list. However bunk beds are the main cause of accidents among kids. The most common accident being falling off the bunk bed. Kids may fall off while playing or while sleeping. Since the beds are at a higher level falling on the floor can cause serious injuries.

There is a 40% chance of head injuries for children’s less than 3 years old. The study found that the head, neck and the face were more likely to sustain an injury. Bunk beds related injuries included falling off the ladder, bed malfunction, jumping from the bed and hitting the bed.

Bunk bed related injuries patterns were examined for age up to 21 years, 572580 injuries related to bunk bed were recorded during the 16 year study. The results of this study suggest that more need to be done to prevent or reduce bed related injuries.
